A couple of weeks ago, the CEIA, an award program that recognizes outstanding achievement in the Canadian events industry held a gala to announce and award the 2009 winners. A huge congratulations to the always inspiring ladies, Elvira & Cathy of DEVAN for their award in theĀ Best Theme Decor $10,000-$30,000.

Devan is constantly pushing the boundaries of design and searching for innovative ways to bring their clients’ visions to life. They were awarded for their work on an Orient Express (click to see images) theme but here is some of their recent decor work that I had the opportunity to work with their team on. Elvira D’Avanzo, the creative spirit, never ceases to amaze me with her resourcefulness and creative inspirations. I am so impressed and amazed at how she executed this holiday event of mesmerizing fantasy and optical illusion art.

I LOVE this bar treatment!!

AGURI to Elvira and Cathy and the team at Devan for their award. You rock!!!

Anyone passionate about design will know that if you crave artwork in the form of fine hand-woven area carpets, Weavers Art is the place. They are pioneers in the world of “floor art fashion“.

ERA: Evolution of Rug Artistry is a design competition conceptulatized by Johane Lefancois-Deignan (JNSQ Design) and Catherine Shea (Weavers Art) which debuted in Toronto at IDS 2010 last week. It was developed to explore, showcase and inspire the talent found in Canada’s design community. This “outside the box” challenge also raises funds and awareness for local charity DAREarts which promotes positive influences through the arts to empower children to achieve their potential.

My amazingly talented friend and interior designer, Alison Milne (Alison Milne Design) was selected as one of the ten finalists whose submissions were transformed into beautiful pieces of floor art.

The ERA rugs are now on display at the Bedford Road Showroom and I hear they look incredible. Weavers Art is hosting an ERA event which includes an exhibit of the 10 winnings rugs which will be available for purchase. Proceeds of all rug sales will go to DAREarts.

Without prejudice, I must admit that I am truly in love with Alison’s Bone Rug creation. She has successfully combined the subtle details of nature and fine art. I love the various layers and textures she chose to incorporate into her design. This piece originated as an animal tusk…click to continue reading.

All the ERA rug designs are wonderful and brilliant – a huge congratulations and well done to all the finalists.

Here are my runner-up designs by 3rd Uncle Design (Roncesvalles) and Roy Banse (The Jazzy Rug):
